In 2000, Sayga established Sudan’s first Bakery Development Centre, which started as a specialised bakery school and developed into a full-fledged learning institute. In 2006, it was renamed “Sayga Baking Development Center”.

Serving the food industry, the baking industry, small business owners, community organisations, and members of the public, the centre offers a myriad of training courses at its headquarters as well as the mobile bakery schools travelling throughout the country.
The centre strives to empower and provide opportunities to underprivileged individuals and also offers specialised classes designed for people with visual and hearing impairments and other disabilities. Whether it is professional bakers, or individuals looking to enhance their domestic baking and pastry making skills, the centre has a place for everyone and welcomes all students free of charge, regardless of their professional background or level of ability. Approximately 231,784 beneficiaries have been trained in different baking and cooking arts since the establishment of the centre.
BDC’s invaluable efforts and contributions to society have been recognised by CSR Arabia as it won Best Project in 2010.
