The importance of education to the development of a nation cannot be underestimated, and at DAL Food, education will be a cornerstone of our efforts to improve understanding of our products, improving our stakeholder relationships, focusing our social partnerships and developing our people.

    School Library Program

    Overview

    As part of DAL’s long-standing commitment to improving education in Sudan, DAL embarked on the School Library Programme in 2016 in partnership with the European Union. The project aims to build a total of 16 libraries in areas affected by conflict, targeting mainly primary and secondary schools in North Darfur, West Darfur, and Khartoum State. Our goal is to create 4 libraries in each state.

    Connecting Classrooms

    Overview

    As an extension of our long-term commitment to improving education standards in the country, DAL Food worked in partnership with the British Council and UK Aid (Department of International Development) to bring the global education programme ‘Connecting Classrooms’ to Sudan.

    Al-awwal Honours “Al-awwal”

    Overview

    In 2009, Sayga’s Al-awwal flour brand has started rewarding the achievements of the highest-scoring students in each field of the Sudanese Secondary School Certificate (academic, commercial, agricultural, industrial, and women-specific studies).

    Bakery Development Center (BDC)

    Overview

    In 2000, Sayga established Sudan’s first Bakery Development Centre, which started as a specialised bakery school and developed into a full-fledged learning institute. In 2006, it was renamed “Sayga Baking Development Center”.

    Sayga Baking Development Centre (BDC) is now a specialised training institute aiming to develop the baking industry in Sudan.

    DAL Cultural Forum

    Overview

    Beyond its core operational activities, DAL has always worked to bridge cultural gaps and help others to better understand the roots of Sudanese arts, music, and poetry. DAL Group embodies diversity in every sense, and we strive to reflect that through our external activities.

    The DAL Cultural Forum (DCF) was founded on the 29th of November 2007. It is an initiative to introduce different cultural agendas to the employees of DAL Group, their families, DAL Group business partners, and special interest groups including music and art schools, various cultural centres, organisations, as well as NGOs.

    School Milk Programme (SMP)

    Overview

    In partnership with the Khartoum State Ministry of Education, DAL Food launched a pilot School Milk Programme (SMP) in 2011, providing 16,000 underprivileged students in the greater Khartoum area with free packs of milk every day.
