Kordufanis … the beautiful people
When the famous musician Sharhabeel Ahmed got on the stage of the Al Ubayid– also known as “Bride of the sands”- Cinema, he seemed to be deep into a state of nostalgic remembrance in front of the people of Al Ubayid, a city in which he spent part of his life.
He was evidently elated as he performed the song that propelled him to national fame through Omdurman Radio: Layali Kordofan (Kordofan nights). The audience responded with applause and cheers.
The concert soared to new heights by the Jazz music at beginning of the evening while Poet Eiman Adam got under the skin of the audience easily as she recited her quartets that she wrote about her love for their city, followed by the traditional poetry of Bushra Ibrahim.
The singer Insaf Fathi carried the audience high with her beautiful voice to which the audience responded by dancing and singing along.
Sending the Forum once again to the various regions and cities of Sudan, starting with Al Ubayid, is something that reminds us of the history of the city and the same importance it to accords to cultural activities and its welcoming embrace of the diversity of Sudanese who settled in it and enjoyed belonging to it.
It is imperative to be grateful to Dal staff and the denizens of Al Ubayid who welcomed us, and without their generosity, the evening would not have been a success.
It was an evening that resembled the bride of the sands and its people who filled our hearts with amity and affection. We are sad to leave, but our consolation is that we are going to another city that is just as full of love.
Farewell, Al Ubayid and hello Kosti and its citizens. We are on our way!
Across Sudan.
