Khartoum – On the evening of Tuesday 21 November, in the International Fair of Khartoum grounds in Burri, the Sudan Traditional Food Festival (STFF) was launched.

The Festival was inaugurated by Mr. Mubarak Almahdi, Minister of Investment, and Mr. Ahmed Saad Omar, Minister of Cabinet Affairs, in the presence of Mr. Osama Daoud, Chairman of Dal Group, Mr. Ihab Daoud, Managing Director of Dal Food, and several senior staff members of Dal.

The launching was also attended by representatives of many Arab and foreign communities, national companies, the media, in addition Dal Group staff.

The guests toured the various sections of the exhibition, including the book fair and the photography exhibition before visiting the local market where they were amazed by the richness of the traditional cuisine. Meanwhile, in the outdoor area, popular dance groups from various parts of the country performed next to stalls selling handicrafts.

The Sudan Traditional Food Festival came a little while after the opening of the spray drying factory, the largest of its kind in the region, which prepares Gum Arabic as a value-added export product. As observed by Omar Ushari, Media and Public Relations Manager at Dal Food, this represents a convergence between the objectives of the Festival and the economic activities of Dal Group. The company is devoting attention to traditional foods and their modernization in a way that makes them keep pace with modern fast-moving lifestyles.”, he added. Ushari affirmed that the company is fully aware of  its role in striking a balance between modernity and traditionalism while being anchored in Sudanese traditions, including local cuisine and related cultural rituals.

The Festival is scheduled to continue up to 25 November.
